Cultural & Linguistic Diversity at Baker McKenzie

BakerDNA

Cultural diversity and inclusion are central to Baker McKenzie's broad diversity strategy and client offering. We want everyone to be proud of who they are, their cultural and/or ethnic background and their family traditions. This is why we created BakerDNA - to provide a network for people from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds to come together and share their experiences, and to increase their visibility in our workplace.

These key enablers work to embed our BakerDNA strategy in the Firm:

  1. Creating networks - identifying opportunities for people to come together internally and in the market to provide support and to discuss the challenges and opportunities of having a culturally diverse legal profession.
  2. Addressing unconscious bias - ensuring that our cultural diversity objectives are considered at all key career decision points, including recruitment and promotion, and that any structural barriers (including any bias) are removed.
  3. Supporting our best talent to progress - ensuring we are offering development programs which serve our cultural diversity objectives, support the progression of individuals and provide the skills for our people to meet the needs of our clients irrespective of cultural background.
  4. Cultural diversity in client interactions - ensuring that we consider the value of diverse cultural representation in significant client interactions including pitches, presentations, panels, significant meetings and contact names within publications.
  5. Consulting with partners and employees in relation to cultural inclusion - ensuring that senior leadership is engaged and continues to innovate and consult on cultural diversity issues.
