Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders at KJR

We partner with Indigenous populations around Australia to innovate and create community business opportunity through emerging technologies.

Jarramali Cultural Tech Tour

We believe that technology can be used for the greater good at KJR and enjoy working with various groups to innovate technological solutions to community challenges. We are excited to be working with Indigenous owned and operated business Jarramali Rock Art Tours in far North Queensland whom we are assisting to preserve and share Indigenous rock art and culture via the implementation of modern technologies.

Through the utilisation of artificial intelligence and machine learning we hope to capture images of the rock art in a database that will educate others on the arts significance in which Jarramali and similar communities can leverage for the preservation of their culture.

West Yalanji Data Capture

With support from Trusted Autonomous Systems and alongside the Western Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation, KJR has trail-blazed a project to identify and protect high value cultural assets including Indigenous Rock Art in Far North Queensland.

Leveraging human-machine teaming we are working with a group of innovative QLD businesses to explore the potential of artificial intelligence and drone mapping for re-discovering Rock Art on Quinkan Country as well as the commercialisation of the region in Far North Queensland.

Northern Australian Indigenous Datathon

The Northern Australian Indigenous Datathon was founded in 2021 by a group of incredible organisations passionate about exploring ways in which technology can solve real-world Indigenous community challenges in Northern Australia.

A founding partner, KJR proudly supports the yearly Datathon held in Cairns as tech sponsor. This event brings together diverse groups of data & tech professionals (including KJR staff), Indigenous communities, and students to explore digital and data-driven solutions utilising big data and ai-ml, as well as create connections and foster collaborative engagement with technologists, students and Indigenous communities.

Indigenous Traineeship

Students
In partnership with the Queensland Government, KJR’s Indigenous Traineeship in data science opens doors to a career in technology for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 11 and 12 on the Gold Coast.

The traineeship offers driven students an opportunity to learn from data scientists, tech engineers and KJR’s consulting team on the tools and best practices for working with, and analysing data. KJR staff are up-skilled and trained by Intel to deliver the ‘AI for Youth’ program to high school students.

Rangers
This KJR traineeship up-skills community park rangers on Quinkan country in drone-flying, data capture and labelling to uplift local geo-mapping and cultural asset re-discovery.
