The Story of ING Australia

ING Bank Australia Limited is a subsidiary of the Internationale Nederlanden Groep (International Netherlands Group), a Dutch banking and financial services corporation. ING Group itself started in 1991 through the merger of previous banking companies. Its global headquarters is in Amsterdam, but it also has offices around the world.

ING Group becomes one of the biggest financial corporations in the world with assets of over USD $1 trillion. It also frequently ranked as one of the top 30 banks in the world. It has over 40 million customers in more than 40 countries in Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia (with about 2 million customers in Australia alone).

ING is predominantly a digital bank and offers a range of products through 24/7 distribution channels including the internet, mobile apps, phone, and mail. That is why they can provide cost-effective services with lower overheads, and offer lower fees to customers.

ING opened its bank in Australia in 1999, and today it becomes the most recommended bank according to RFi XPRT Survey, (February-July 2021) when compared to customers of 20 other banks operating in Australia. It is considered a strong bank with excellent security and safety protocols. It operates as a direct bank that has no branches or ATM network, with the exception of the customer service lounge at its headquarters in Sydney.

Culture & vibe

This is a place where your ideas will be challenged. The working environment at ING is surrounded by diverse points of view, genders and cultures. The contrasting backgrounds and perspectives help people be faster in adapting, more innovative, and more creative in designing solutions and products for the customers.

You will connect with other teams in any workspace that suits your day. You may get a chance to work with a tech team when you are hired for customer service. You might also shadow your boss to see what it takes to step up. Or, you may need to use the innovation methodology to workshop ideas to make the customers’ lives easier. The teamwork

They also apply an approach to flexible working called FlexING. The company wants their staff to manage their own work. You can choose where, when, and how you work so you will not miss all the moments that matter to you.

Recruitment process

The company always looks for a way to make life easier for its customers. Customer experience is a top priority. Therefore, not only do they need staff that are tech savvy and have an eye for detail, but also those who always think about a better way to do something. They look for people who are open-minded and can put themselves in their customers’ shoes.

They employ people across general management, retail, information technology, compliance, administration and operations, risk management, contact centres, and support functions such as human resources, finance, marketing, legal, and communications.

To apply, you need to submit your CV containing your updated personal information and details on your skills and career stages. Your CV will be reviewed, and the recruitment team may ask some additional questions through a screening call. Certain roles might require a case study or technical test, and the recruiter will provide you with the necessary information.

The interview process is usually divided into two parts. It is a chance for them to learn more about your skills and qualifications, and for you to ask the questions you might have. They might ask you several questions, such as your previous experience, why you are interested in the role/ING, your experience with outsourced vendors, how you deal with difficult stakeholders, and where do you see yourself in five years.

Career prospects

ING Australia aims to be a responsible employer that provides staff with good working conditions and opportunities for growth. Their mentoring program promotes professional and personal development and equips members with tangible tools to support their career aspirations. However, it is not easy to progress or get a contract for new positions, and the HR process for career progression, role movement, and application might be slow
