In this talk, Associate Professor Prem Prakash Jayaraman will discuss the Federal Government’s Australian 5G Innovation Initiative and Brimbank City Council-funded Internet of Things project. An initiative that will deploy and use high-resolution cameras, GPS sensors, edge devices attached to garbage trucks to rapidly and in real-time detect roadside assets that require maintenance.
Technology is central to our daily activities and increasingly the main gateway for people to access their rights, such as, accessing the right to education through online learning. For many people, technology can provide a gateway to inclusion or result in an enormous barrier.
The Technology x Society Forum provides a space for engagement between STEM and HASS academics with an interest in the design, development and application of public interest technology. Our aim is to stimulate multi-disciplinary collaborations to address complex social challenges. Forum activities will include a series of curated conversations on key topics, organised by Forum leaders and seeded by the Forum Steering Group. The goal of each forum is to generate opportunities for research, leadership and social innovation by researchers at Swinburne and La Trobe and our partners.
