2024 MRPV Internship - Social Value & Inclusion – January 2024 start

Major Road Projects Victoria is delivering a massive investment in the state’s roads.

The West Gate Tunnel Project will give Melbourne a second freeway link between the west and the city – providing a much-needed alternative to the West Gate Bridge and a vital second river crossing.

North East Link will fix the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network with new 6.5 km tunnels from Watsonia to Bulleen. We’re also overhauling the Eastern Freeway and completing the M80 Ring Road at Greensborough.

We’re also delivering major new road projects across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria while reducing traffic congestion and improving safety on the roads people rely on every day.

As a dedicated centre for road excellence, our work goes far beyond the tunnels, freeways, bridges and extra lanes.

We’re focused on leaving a legacy that benefits communities, the environment and industry for generations to come.

About the program

Our six-month full time/part time Internship Program is the perfect way to kickstart your career and gain on the job experience. You will get exposure to real infrastructure projects and have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience related to your current studies.

The MRPV Internship Program is a structured development experience which aims to build the next generation of diverse and inclusive talent ready for careers post-study.

Eligibility

MRPV’s Internship Program aims to provide opportunities for students identifying with an underrepresented group/s who may otherwise face employment barriers.

To be eligible you will identify with at least one of the following underrepresented groups:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • Woman in STEM
  • Living with disability (physical, intellectual, sensory, neurological and psychiatric disabilities)
  • Refugee/Asylum Seeker
  • Low socio-economic

You also must be:

  • currently studying a relevant undergraduate degree for the duration of the internship program;
  • enrolled in studying for the full duration Intern Program; and
  • the holder of Australian working rights that allow you to work up to 38 hours.

We try to give preference to students who are currently in their second to last or last years of study but welcome applications from all years.

What’s involved

During your time as a Social Value and Inclusion intern with MRPV, you provide program delivery support to the team who implement MRPV’s Social Procurement Strategy. This could include preparing communications and documents, collating and analysing reporting measures, support with research and collaborate with key stakeholders to deliver inclusion and social procurement activities for MRPV projects.

As a participant of the MRPV internship program, you will:

  • Gain hands on experience in your selected field while completing your study
  • Flexibility to choose to work on a full-time or part-time basis where hours will be flexible to suit your Uni timetable.
  • Receive coaching and mentoring from trained professionals in your chosen discipline
  • Participate in learning and development workshops
  • Apply for industry-based learning credit towards your degree

About You

We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in kickstarting their career in Social Procurement and Inclusion. It would be preferred if you have strong written and verbal communication skills, display strong attention to detail and are someone who enjoys building positive working relationships. Experience in using MS Office applications is also preferred. If you consider yourself to have a can-do attitude and are good at managing yourself in ambiguous situations, this could be the role for you!

How to Apply

All applications must be made through the Victorian Government's careers website. To apply, you must submit:

  • A statement regarding the under represented group you identify with and any relevant documentation to support your alignment to this group;
  • Your CV/Resume;
  • Your Academic results; and
  • A copy of your working rights in Australia (eg. Australian Passport, Australian Citizenship, Australian Birth Certificate etc.)

Please ensure to return all application documents required in one single PDF file.

Once you apply online and pass an eligibility screening you will be invited to a phone screen with a member of our Employment Programs team, to tell us more about yourself and why you want to work at MRPV. If you prove to be a strong fit for the role, you will be invited to either a group assessment centre or panel interview.

Successful applicants will be offered a position in December 2023 and commence employment in January 2024.

Applications close end of day Monday 30th October.

Please note: As part of this role, you may be required to travel to different locations and/or to be relocated at any time to a different work location within Victoria, to meet operational requirements and/or to support a team.
