These are 12 month fixed term positions. There are four roles designated for persons of Vietnamese or Chinese descent with Bilingual skillsets at stations across Port Phillip Bay and Phillip Island. There are also three designated Female roles located at Tatura, Swan Hill and Bendigo. The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special/equal opportunity measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) and section 8(4) of the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic).
Fisheries Officers report to the Supervising Fisheries Officer as part of a compliance operations team. They are responsible for delivering the full range of Fisheries strategies, programs and services in their operational area and in state-wide operations and projects as required.
The Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) delivers a fully integrated fisheries compliance program that comprises prevention (community engagement and education), enforcement operations, intelligence collation and targeted investigations. The VFA also contributes to public safety by acting as the control agency for shark hazards and supporting other agencies in the management of emergencies.
The position will also provide support and authoritative advice to the Supervising Fisheries Officer.
