Job Description

Are you looking for a Corporate Counsel position on a major infrastructure project that will drive your career to the next level? Do you want to work with a highly skilled and passionate team, dedicated to delivering Marinus Link?

We have a fantastic opportunity for a committed and experienced Corporate Counsel to join our well-established in house legal and governance team at Marinus Link Pty Ltd (MLPL). You will undertake work to support the project and assist MLPL to meet its objectives. In this role, you will work as part of the MLPL Legal Services Team to provide high quality, independent legal advice and manage the provision of external legal advice.

This role will see you work across all aspects of Project Marinus including procurement, environment planning and heritage approvals, property, electricity regulation, corporate structuring and governance, including negotiation of contracts and legal documents.

You will establish and maintain strong working relationships with external legal advisors and other key project stakeholders, becoming a trusted advisor to the project team and utilising legal project management skills across a diverse, complex and dynamic portfolio of work.

You will be part of a small, highly focused, team of governance and legal practitioners who genuinely care for and support each other, and know how to have fun.

About the Business

Marinus Link Pty Ltd (MLPL) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of TasNetworks, which is wholly owned by the State of Tasmania. MLPL has been established as a special purpose vehicle to deliver the $3 billion-plus Marinus Link, a 1500-megawatt capacity undersea and underground electricity and telecommunications interconnector that will strengthen the National Electricity Market, offering low cost, reliable and clean energy. Marinus Link and the supporting transmission developments in North West Tasmania will play a key role in Australia’s future electricity grid, as supported by the Australian Energy Market Operator, the Australian Government and Infrastructure Victoria. To learn more about Marinus Link, visit www.marinuslink.com.au

Marinus Link is a growing team of like-minded individuals that each play a vital role in the success of the project and running of the company. We are collaborative, we value diversity of thought and share our expertise, we are inclusive, and are passionate about building a clean energy future and contributing to the economic growth and prosperity of regional Victoria and Tasmania.

About you

You will have a commercial, pragmatic and flexible approach to delivering legal services, ideally with some exposure to the following key areas: procurement, property, electricity regulation, corporate governance and construction projects.  Operating in a dynamic environment, you will have a strong ability to prioritise conflicting deliverables and demonstrate highly developed time management skills.

You’ll be passionate about renewable energy, comfortable working in a dynamic fast-paced environment and dealing with ambiguity and enjoy working with a team to solve complex and cutting edge problems in a climate of regulatory change.

You will require Tertiary qualifications in law and a current Tasmanian legal practising certificate (or eligibility for admission in Tasmania). You will have a minimum of 3 years post qualification legal experience, ideally within private practice or in-house in a commercial environment.

What's on offer

A once in a lifetime career opportunity working on a high profile nationally significant project committed to delivering a low cost, reliable and clean energy future for Australia. Engaged as part of a well-connected and collaborative team you will grow your network across both regional Victoria and Tasmania.

We offer strong career paths and excellent employee benefits including employee assistance programs designed to guide you in reaching your full potential. You will be a valued member of the Marinus Link team.

We offer a progressive approach to flexibility in the workplace, this includes flexibility in start and finishing times in line with project needs as well as working from home options where required.

If you are passionate about renewables this is the opportunity you have been waiting for!

This is a full-time role currently available until the end of 2024.

Can you see yourself living here?

Based in Tasmania’s capital, historic Hobart/nipaluna will be a phenomenal base for you to succeed in this role. You will be situated on the gorgeous river Derwent with appealing world heritage wilderness areas just a stone’s throw away. Enjoy a relaxed lifestyle with easy access to iconic settings such as Mona, Port Arthur and the historic Hobart Water Front.
