Working Hours at Ramsay Health Care

How flexible is your company when it comes to hours?
The working hours have been flexible. I couldn't do three 10-hour shifts in a row and the manager accommodated this. I also work a permanent day elsewhere and the company accommodated this too. Absolutely no complaints.

I am often staying past my shift finish time especially on PM & night shifts because there is only 15mins between start time and finish time for the next shift. Although myself personally and other staff as well come 1hr prior to our start time to ensure other colleagues finish on time, it is not fair that we are just expected to give usually 15mins extra on PM & 30-45mins on night shift because we handover 16 patients to two sections without being compensated.

I havent required to change much about my roster.

I am .6, or 48 hrs per fortnight. My NUM is considerate of my requests for certain days on or time off as needed.
Grade 2 EN, Brisbane - 09 Nov 2023
The flexibility is okay. I do not often get my holiday or date requests approved, so I end up working times that go against my family life/ work and life balance.

I am contracted to a certain number of hours per fortnight. Work has been very flexible to both allow for travel to and from work and to help me maintain my work/life balance.

The staffs in Boyd have a communication chat room in FB messenger where staffs are asked if anyone is free to fill understaffed hours when there are sick calls or if staff is short. This is voluntary. Most of the time, the regular staffs are given flexibility in the hours. Not for grads though.

I am very happy with my shifts.
Graduate, Sydney - 06 Nov 2023
We are expected to just be flexible (eg. changing shifts, changing start times, changing allocations, being sick leave cover etc), however as soon as you need something changed you have to jump through hoops as a staff member.

The HDU roster manager is flexible and by putting my roster requests in workplan each month, I can maintain work/life balance and plan work around life commitments. There are plenty of opportunities to pick up extra hours and I often will work more than the allocated amount each fortnight.

I am on 24/7 shift work. Happy with how my roster is done.

My NUM is absolutely amazing at working around my demanding schedule and needs. That is what has kept me there.
Graduate, Sydney - 04 Nov 2023
My NUM is very accommodating and fair with all staff.
Graduate, Melbourne - 04 Nov 2023
My contracted hours are 52hrs fortnightly which is 7.5hrs per shift. This is alright for me. It's very flexible working these hours in that l can swap to work PM instead of AM, even calling in sick when l'm not feeling well. I also do pick extra shifts if situations allow me to.

Shift work of rotating roster and a mix of early's, lates and night duties. My ward manager is very flexible in regards to giving you days off for certain events and accepting last minute annual leave. Everyone has to work all shifts and it can be difficult do night shifts every week. Some feedback would be to consider hiring some permanent night staff to lessen fatigue and boost moral.

Graduate, Brisbane - 03 Nov 2023
The work hours are fine it's just that I very rarely have breaks each shift. Not even time to go to the toilet. It is expected, and the others joke about it.
