Application Process & Interviews at RACV

Very behavioural based.

I went through a 3 stage assessment process. The first stage consisted of sending my resume and CV to the RACV website. I applied for the Technology Graduate Program. The second stage involved a number of tests and an online interview. The tests were maths, English, personality, and memory tests. The last assessment required us to attend an in-person assessment centre. On the day, we participated in group activities with the other candidates and had a 1:1 interview with the respective manager from the area you applied for. Then I received an offer through a phone call 1-2 weeks after the assessment centre.

For the grad role we had to go through online tests which we had to pass to get onto the assessment centre stage where as a group we had to perform activities with other candidates. and then a final interview on the same day

Interview process was pretty standard, an online assessment into an online interview and then onto the group assessment centre.

My interview process started with the psychometric testing. This was followed by a virtual interview with the graduate recruiter. After the virtual interview I was asked to come in and have an interview with a General Manager who would be my manager for one of my rotations. This was more of an informal interview where he showed me around the offices and asked me about my working history. After the interview with the General Manager, I was then asked to come back for an interview with an Executive General Manager and this was again a more informal interview. I did not do an assessment centre as I was not part of the large graduate recruitment for 2022 or 2023. I was hired in the middle of 2022 as they had advertised for one midyear graduate position.

Online component followed by an in-person assessment centre and interview. In-person assessment centre felt more natural and comfortable than online ones, and we also learnt about the company and got an insight into what being a grad would entail. Notified of having received the role quickly, but there was a delay between confirmation of role and receiving a formal contract.

The interview process was rigorous, with multiple stages. It began with an online interview, followed by an assessment centre, and ended with a final 1-on-1 interview.

There was an assessment centre which had us do activities throughout the day in groups to test our communication and teamwork skills, and a formal interview with someone from the area we are applying for.

The hiring process spanned four different stages: an online application, video interview, online assessments, and in-person assessment centre (including an interview). I really appreciate how clear RACV was with the stages in the process - there was never a moment where I didn't know what the next stage would be or what it would involve. All up, the hiring process took a little over two months.

The interview process for the graduate program involved a psychometric and video interview, graduate assessment centre, whereby a 1:1 interview, group activity and case study was held, and a second interview before final selection.

Questions relating to how I would approach certain aspects of the role I was applying for and if I had any experience in the field.

Common behavioural questions.

Who are you? What is your background? (What did you study/industry you were working in) What is your experience in __? What are you passionate about? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? How did you find out about the role? What do you know of the RACV? How did you know of the RACV? What do you like to do in your spare time?

Mostly about myself and experiences, with a few technical questions thrown in.

They asked about my values. They asked why I wanted to work with the company. They asked me to talk about my previous working history and studies

I was asked a whole range of questions about my skills, experience and interests.

Everything I know about RACV and what kind of jobs that I would like to and expecting to work on.

It has been over a year since I have interviewed so I don't remember specifics. I remember I detailed a high-stress incident at my previous place of work and how I pushed forward, what experience I have in the field and why I applied at RACV.

From memory, I was asked what I thought the most important aspect of my role would be, and was also given a few "tell me a time when" scenarios.

How we navigated challenges, why we wanted to work at RACV, what areas of marketing am I interested in, what is my proficiency is with numbers.

Focus on preparing behavioural questions. Respond using STAR format.

Prepare your interview questions - for the online and in-person interviews. Don't stress, you'll be okay as long as you're respectful, genuine, and humble! Remember that they're human and you're human too. So, don't be afraid to be yourself and let your personality shine through.

My advice would be to bring your best self forward professionally and personally, especially from a grad role perspective, how you act, compatibility, ability to learn trump any technical experience you may have.

I would really focus on what you know and try to show that. It's ok not to know everything, you are applying for a grad spot, you're not expected to.

Research about RACV and its products and services. Prepare some questions you could ask the interviewer.

Candidates should aim to tell a story and understand the companies' values.

Nothing specific. I went into it expecting nothing and only trying to be me, and it worked out. I made sure to communicate and include people in activities throughout my assessment centre and had a thorough yet relaxed interview with my interviewer. I saw people being competitive and didn't want any of that so I am happy to see that what I was giving is what they were looking for.

A tip I'd give - regardless of where you apply - is to think of a solid STAR answer to a "tell me a time when" scenario. If an interviewer asks you something like "tell me a time when you worked with others to achieve a common goal", be able to give context on the Situation, explain what the Task was, what Action you took, and what the Result was. The other piece of advice I'd give is to be yourself!

Be yourself. Show us your character rather than trying to portray yourself as being the best. Read into the history of RACV, and our vision for the future - it's rich and diverse.
