I haven't experienced much 'formal' training. So far the informal/on the job training has been good, concepts are explained well enough for me to understand the first time usually and my questions are always answered.
Graduate, Erina - 19 Jul 2022
In the short time I've been working at Northrop, I've gained invaluable on site construction experience and project management, as well as social development.

They run 'Northrop University' where there is a checklist of different job areas that graduates should be exposed to and they try to ensure you get a very wide range of projects under your belt. We can pick a mentor who will watch out for you and ensure that you are getting the right exposure to jobs to gain more experience. Many technical skills have been accumulated and will continue to accumulate over time since projects are ever changing. Skills include communication internally to other engineers, externally to contractors and clients in addition to the skills of learning how to problem solve, break down difficult concepts and using the engineering technical knowledge to apply it to a solution.
Graduate, Newcastle - 13 Jul 2022
The training and development has been thorough, not necessarily due to structured programs but due to general involvement in a range of projects and accessibility to knowledgeable engineers! I have particularly appreciated going to site and appreciating the work we do up-close.
Intern, Brisbane - 13 Jul 2022
Northrop University is a system set up for graduates which includes a checklist of items for graduates to gain experience in, to create a well-rounded engineer. These checklists are reviewed with mentors periodically to ensure continued career development.

There are lunch time technical talks, with catering and excellent presentations. We are also encouraged to book external training that we think is beneficial.

There are some great opportunities to learn here. From seminars at lunch time talking about various concepts, to trips out to site where we can see the physical result of our drawings. There is always an opportunity to learn

Northrop has a great interest with further developing the skills and expertise of their employees. Personally I feel this is the most valuable thing that Northrop has to offer over other consultant engineering firms
Graduate, Charlestown - 06 Jul 2022
training is applied differently to each task with an emphasis on understanding the theory behind a task rather than plugging directly into a spreadsheet
Intern, Melbourne - 06 Jul 2022
Northrop has pushed me into learning all the avaliable software to become a more rounded engineer.
Graduate, Sydey - 06 Jul 2022
The informal training I have received so far has been very good. Learning new modelling softwares. I haven't received much formal training so far from my company
Graduate, Newcastle - 06 Jul 2022
There isnt a set graduate program, which means you just get thrown into a job and learn as you go from your team. If you are after a structured graduate program Northrop doesn't really offer that. Have learnt how to operate 12D Drains Music and Bluebeam with no prior knowledge. Am also confident in stormwater and drainage design, aswell as road grading and client interaction
