Your role

A new career opportunity has arisen for a Law Graduate to join Mills Oakley's Brisbane Family Law team on a 12-month maximum term contract commencing in February-March 2025. You will work in an industry-leading practice, led by two partners who are highly recognised. As a law graduate, you will have the opportunity to work in one of the largest and most dynamic family law teams in Brisbane and the country. Roles in this team are highly sought after because of the mentoring and development provided by senior members of the team and the quality and sophistication of the client base.

About you

Mills Oakley is looking for a highly motivated, proactive, responsible and diligent lawyer who is eager to learn and who would thrive in a busy and fast-paced environment. You are a people person, who enjoys working in a team and has good communication skills.

You are the perfect for this role if you:

  • Have recently completed a Law degree with a genuine interest in pursuing a career in family law
  • Have the ability to offer excellent client service and the desire to learn through both on-the-job training and mentoring from the senior lawyers in the team.
  • Have some experience already within the family law space or you may be interested in understanding more about the industry and the work Mills Oakley does.

Benefits

Mills Oakley is committed to your health and well-being and offers a multitude of employee benefits including:

  • Dress for your day
  • Discounted health insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Discounts to gyms and studios across Australia
  • Study and exam leave
  • Competitive referral bonus

Training, development & rotation

You’ll kick off your career with an Induction Program which will cover the basics of legal practice as well as provide a friendly introduction to key members of the practice teams. Over 12 months, you’ll rotate through three practice areas and gain a sense of your preferred career direction.

Mills Oakley is one of the few firms offering graduates the opportunity to experience not only the usual “big firm” practices such as Corporate, Property and Litigation but also other areas such as Family Law, Not-for-Profit Law and their Private Advisory practice for small businesses and individuals.

The firm is large enough to offer sophisticated work and small enough to immerse yourself in every aspect of a matter. You’ll be at the forefront of complex and often high-profile matters, gaining practical hands-on experience and working closely with their Partners and senior lawyers.
