Working Hours at Department of Industry, Science and Resources

My work hours are often from 9-5, however the department is flexible with the hours that you work as long as you complete your work. The added benefit having flex time is ensuring that you get time off for the extra hours that you spend working. It is an adaptive department where personal work hours preferences are respected.

Fairly flexible and follows an if not why not approach to hours.

There is a culture of staying late and no recognition of hours work as it is a given that you will stay and complete tasks. This is not the case in every team, but has definitely been my experience.

The number of hours required to complete my normal workload in addition to GMP are not acceptable. We have been assigned workloads that take up our entire work hours, and then have to find time to manage other commitments such as GMP of a night/weekend.

DISR is very flexible when it comes to work hours, I usually work 8:30-4:30pm and there is a good balance between work and life needs. Grateful that they allow the accumulation of flex as that is quite common, especially when completing the graduate project on top of our normal work.

I am usually in and out of the office at my preferred times. After periods of greater workload I feel supported to take time for myself to recuperate.

DISR offers flexible working options, however, given that there seems to have been no communication between EP and placement supervisors about the expectations that grad programs are a 6+ hour per week commitment (between major project and frequent all day training), it has been very difficult to complete both work and grad commitments without working overtime, given that employers design grad role responsibilities to be full time equivalent.

As long as you work the required hours, it's fairly flexible, as long as you and your manager/supervisor both agree.

My teams have been great about providing work hours. The grad project was not. The amount of hours required for this project was ridiculous, particularly when we had just changed rotations and were trying to settle into new teams.

I typically do a 9-5 Monday to Friday role and am allowed to do work from home regularly. It would be preferrable to do the 4-day working week however, as I feel I would be more productive in that kind of environment. I am allowed to work anytime between 7am and 7pm, as long as I do my 7.5 hours, so this is quite convenient for me.
