What are your thoughts on pay and bonuses at your company?
Graduates should get share of bonuses. Pay should increase with inflation.
Graduate, Canberra - 27 Oct 2022
I am satisfied and have no issues with pay/bonuses at my company.
Graduate, Sydney - 24 Oct 2022
Good pay for intro level engineer, once you progress up the pay is quite different to private sector for same level of experience
Graduate, Canberra - 20 Oct 2022
Very nice. A lot more than my last graduate position.
Graduate, Sydney - 19 Oct 2022
We are a federal government department so bonuses don't exist.
Graduate, Canberra - 14 Oct 2022
The amount I make is solid to cover my living expenses and for the hours I work. However, it's less certain if it's generous compared to similar equivalent positions.
Graduate, Canberra - 14 Oct 2022
Pay is good enough as a grad, but looking forward pay grades move up very slowly, need 2 or 3 promotions and sustained years at the organisation to get to a decent pay level.
Graduate, Canberra - 13 Oct 2022
No bonuses. Pay is great.
Graduate, Canberra - 12 Oct 2022
For a graduate salary I think my pay is excellent.
Graduate, Canberra - 12 Oct 2022
No bonuses, but pay is above average for my experience and entry level, with really good Super as well.
Graduate, Canberra - 11 Oct 2022
As a graduate, there are no bonuses and you are not eligible for pay rise due to performance. After finishing the grad program, your APS level determines your pay bracket, and performance determines whether you rise to the top of that bracket in steps. For the hours required the salary is very fair, however, the dissatisfactions comes from myself being an engineer and the average pay for engineers in APS is noticeably less than in industry, but the hours to mostly compensate for this when compared to most industry jobs expected hours.
Graduate, Melbourne - 11 Oct 2022
Given the nature of the work, pay should be in the top 3 for APS (currently sitting in the bottom 3).
Graduate, Canberra - 11 Oct 2022
Higher than other graduate programs, but lower than other engineering companies afterwards with not much opportunity for increases until the EL1/EL2 levels which is more management than engineering. Contractors with defence typically earn 20% more for doing the same work
Graduate, Adelaide - 11 Oct 2022
Happy with my pay currently, but aware of how it compares to rest of government.
Graduate, Canberra - 11 Oct 2022
Compared to other private company, not bad. Considering the work and life balance, very good.
Graduate, Edinburgh - 11 Oct 2022

Graduate, Sydney - 11 Oct 2022

As a grad, I had accommodation and meals provided for my first few weeks after I moved to Canberra to start the program. I think the biggest perk for me is all the travel I've been able to do. I've visited Defence bases across Australia, in places most people will never get to see.
