Plenty of groups to support, with a very diverse workforce
Graduate, Perth - 19 Oct 2022
We have trainings and Employee Networks targeted to supporting and increasing awareness for diverse employees. Overall, I think employees are able and do foster and encourage diversity and inclusive behaviours. However, tokenism still exists and due to being a rather aged workforce, traditional values can sometimes create challenges and barriers to people who identify with some diversities.

From what I've seen, I think they do a good job of hiring diverse people. I know they offer on the job traineeships for some site roles open to specific minority groups, and they have several programs to encourage indigenous people to enter the business, and retain those staff members when they do. From an observational perspective, a lot of the people I work with are migrants to Australia and/or from a different cultural background to myself. As a queer person myself, I've felt very accepted within the workplace, and there's lots of indicators that the office is a safe place for me. I've not worked up on site so I don't know whether that's as true on site as in the office.

Support networks for minority groups are available. Diversity and inclusion is discussed amongst management. Good parental leave opportunities.

The workforce is fairly diverse in the offices - less so at sites. There were recent updates made to parental leave policies to make them more fair - including things like parental leave for adoptive parents. The company has a number of very active employee networks for minority groups.

There is definitely an effort to make teams more diverse and recruit diverse graduates. Still work to be done, but by and large good.

Very committed. There is a number of employee networks which enable you to meet a diverse range of people and discuss diversity and help breakdown barriers.

Lots of employee networks in the company that are trying to advocate for change. Overall feels quite inclusive. Although more needs to be done, I like that Chevron doesn't try to achieve 50/50 gender diversity or treat these issues based on stats. It is good to see that they are going to the root cause of the issue (such as focusing more on highschool outreach etc)

It seems great

What does your company do to attract applicants from less privileged backgrounds?
I don't believe we do much in this space at all besides having and supporting partnerships that target Indigenous peoples, youth and mental health related organisations.

They definitely have at least one program working with several underprivileged schools in WA to help kids develop the skills to join the oil and gas industry (I believe it has a strong STEM focus). I'm not very well informed beyond this aspect.

There is an Aboriginal cadetship program that gives indigenous students the opportunity to work at the company in their summer break while they are at university. These students also have the opportunity to apply for the graduate program after university - I know a few employees that joined the company permanently after their cadetship.

Provide scholarships and work experience and visit schools

The Cadet Program is one of many way Chevron attracts less privileged applicants.
Graduate, Perth - 25 Sep 2021
Chevron has a cadet program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people to support them with work opportunities through University.
