Stepping Into is a paid internship program designed for university students and recent graduates with a disability who want to gain paid, hands-on work experience in their chosen field of study. Students benefit by gaining valuable experience in their desired field of work.

About the Internships:

The Australian Network on Disability (AND) is offering students and recent graduates with a disability the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of internships offered across a range of industries in both the public and private sectors. Internships are available for students and recent graduates studying within disciplines of Finance, Law, Social Sciences, IT, Science, Engineering, Communication and many more.

Internships generally last four to eight weeks (with the opportunity for flexible work hours to manage your disability or other commitments).

Some of the awesome benefits of participating in Stepping Into include:

Am I eligible?

  • Stage of study: final or second last year of university, or graduated from university within 36 months
  • Discipline of Study: All are encouraged to apply
  • Citizenship status: Australia Citizen, Permanent Resident or International student with full working rights in Australia

What is 'Disability'?

We accept applications from students with all types of disabilities, ongoing medical conditions, chronic illnesses and mental health conditions.

How do I apply?

Applications must be submitted via the Australian Network on Disability website. Before applying, please make sure you have the following documents ready to submit:

  • Resume
  • University transcript
  • Proof of eligibility (Disability Access Plan or relevant medical documentation)

Applications close at midnight on 9th October 2022 (Sunday).

There is no limitation on how many you can apply for or participate in the program. We are happy to reconsider previous applicants for the Stepping Into program. Contact us on 1300 36 36 45 or email to request your previous application be copied. Please review the positions available and submit at least three position preferences.

Information Sessions

Over the coming weeks, we will be facilitating information sessions online.

The sessions will offer an overview of the Stepping Into program. The Australian Network on Disability team will talk about how the program works, what the application process is like, and answer any questions you have about Stepping Into.

  • Tuesday, 6th September, 2 – 3 pm (AEST)
  • Thursday, 15th September, 3 – 4 pm (AEST)
  • Wednesday, 21st September, 2 – 3 pm (AEST)
