About the Australian Digital Health Agency

Here at the Australian Digital Health Agency, we’re a Federal Government Agency, responsible for national digital health services and systems. You may not have heard of us, but you’ve definitely heard of our initiatives and programs, My Health Record, e-Prescriptions & Telehealth.

Last year we received a significant investment from the Australian Government to support the ongoing operation of the Australian Digital Health Agency to continue delivering digital health infrastructure and upgrading My Health Record.

We believe in fostering inclusivity, respect, and understanding among all Australians and working towards a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' culture, knowledge, and rights are valued and celebrated. Digital health has an enormous potential to benefit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, empowering them to access better healthcare services and improve their overall well-being.

“Technology can contribute to closing the gap by improving health care accessibility, quality and safety no matter where people live.” – Amanda Cattermole, CEO

Your New Role

If you’re ready to shape the digital health landscape that impact the lives of fellow Australians, join us at Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) as an Indigenous Pathways Graduate. In this role, you’ll work on contemporary initiatives within the Australian Government, influencing decisions that matter. Here’s what to expect:

  • Structured Development: During the 12-month graduate development program, you’ll be engaged at the APS4 level. As an Indigenous Pathways Graduate, you’ll undertake a number of rotations where you will be exposed to real, relevant, and practical work that will enrich your experience with us with a focus on building your capabilities. You’ll engage with work that directly impacts the public, offer advice, support, and guidance, contributing to important decisions and work across various business areas aligned with your degree.
  • Real-World Experience: Work on real, relevant, and practical projects. Collaborate with stakeholders, learn from dedicated supervisors and mentors, and explore diverse areas within the Digital Health Landscape.
  • Career Progression: Upon successful completion of the program, you’ll be well-prepared to transition to the APS5 level. ADHA’s Graduate Development Program equips you with the skills needed to excel in your role and make a meaningful impact. We have a very strong focus on ensuring you’re set up for a long career with us, with clear lines of career progression.
  • Foundational Training: The program also includes training to build your foundational knowledge of the Australian Public Service (APS) and government systems. You’ll gain insights into the intricacies of public administration and policy.

What You Can Look Forward To

As an Indigenous Pathways Graduate at ADHA, your experience will be enriching and rewarding. Here’s what our organisation and program offer:

  • Supervisor Support: Your dedicated supervisor will guide you through day-to-day tasks, provide valuable feedback, and help you understand how your work contributes to our goals. They’re committed to making sure you get exposure to meaningful projects and gain the skills you’re interested in developing.
  • Real-World Projects: Get hands-on experience with meaningful projects. Your work will directly impact Australia’s health system, making a difference in people’s lives.
  • Dedicated Buddy: You’ll be allocated a recent graduate from your work area or office, who can provide you with the support that you’ll need while you find your feet.
  • Structured Mentoring Programs: We’ll organise a mentor to coach and guide you in your professional development while you’re in your graduate year, giving you the best chance to develop aspirational goals, and achieve them!
  • An Organisation Committed to Change: We’re committed to diversity and closing the gap, recognised in our RAP which you can read more about at https://www.digitalhealth.gov.au/initiatives-and-programs/reconciliation. We want to create a culturally safe environment at all times, and to do this we provide initiatives like additional leave to support your cultural commitments.
  • Flexible Working: We’re proud to support our diverse workforce, which includes opportunities for an agreed amount of work performed at home and varied work hours on a case-by-case basis.

What We’re Looking For

This program is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have completed an undergraduate degree or higher. All degree types are encouraged to apply. The application process will help graduates find career opportunities based on their interests and studies and begin a career with confidence and support.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  • Be an Australian citizen or will be by 1 July 2024.
  • Be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • Must have completed your university degree within the last five years or be in your final year of study and have completed all your course requirements before commencing our program.
  • Be prepared to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance.

If you secure a place in our 2025 Graduate Program, you will need to provide evidence of your Australian citizenship and be willing to undergo a National Police Check as well as health and character checks as required. The department will guide you through the process of obtaining your baseline security clearance as part of your onboarding process.
