What are your thoughts on pay and bonuses at your company?
No bonuses but opportunity to work in acting positions. Regular pay review.
Midlevel, Canberra - 03 Jun 2021
It's good for an entry level position.
Graduate, Canberra - 01 Jun 2021
Pay is good, no opportunity for bonuses/gifts (public service).
Graduate, Canberra - 01 Jun 2021
Pay is great, though progressing into higher pay levels can be a bit slow as the ABS doesn't often run recruiting rounds.
Graduate, Melbourne - 01 Jun 2021
Pay is average for the level I am at, but the Leave and flexi time really make it more then worth while.
Graduate, Adelaide - 31 May 2021
Relatively low compared to other graduate positions in government. Generous superannuation. Reasonable annual and personal leave.
Graduate, Canberra - 28 May 2021
ABS salaries can be found in our enterprise agreement. The pay is okay but is lower than other APS agencies such as the ATO for the same APS level.
Midlevel, Melbourne - 28 May 2021
For a graduate position, I think the pay is fair - generous superannuation above the 9.5% required
Graduate, Melbourne - 27 May 2021
Pay is decent depending on what level you are at. Sometimes acting positions are paid lower than permanent positions in the same grade. This can be a worry for longer term contracts where you are doing the same work as a permanent staff member at the same level.
Midlevel, Sydney - 27 May 2021
No bonuses. Starting pay is about average compared to elsewhere. Very rarely do permanent roles open up at higher levels. Difficult to progress career wise. As expected, pay increases are small compared to private industry, especially for data-related professions such as data science and data engineering. As, technical roles at the organisation get paid at the same level as people in non-technical roles (e.g., such as call center workers).
Midlevel - 27 May 2021
Annual salary is pretty standard at my level, additional superannuation is nice. More of a cap in earning potential in the long run, but per hour worked works out well.
Graduate, Canberra - 27 May 2021
Rigid pay and level structure means that there is no capacity for people with specialised skills to earn competitive wages with private sector. similarly bonuses are inexistent in public sector
Midlevel, Geelong - 27 May 2021
Starting pay is low
Midlevel, Melbourne - 27 May 2021
The APS level system disincentivises hard work
Experienced, adelaide - 27 May 2021
What are your company's best or most unusual perks? For example: free tickets, free dinners, moving expenses, taxis, pension, etc.
Flex-time
Graduate, Canberra - 01 Jun 2021
I don't think we have any real perks persay, maybe the clubs around the place? And support when moving between states for work like I did was excellent, providing a hotel and paying for uplift of items and also my travel expenses (Fuel and wear on my car)
Graduate, Melbourne - 01 Jun 2021
Superannuation of 15.4%
Midlevel, Sydney - 31 May 2021
Great superannuation and flex leave capabilities.
Graduate, Adelaide - 31 May 2021
