Training & Personal Development at AECOM

Currently - the mechanical team in Canberra has improvements to make to the structure to support the graduates better.

Graduate program was nice, very well structured and with PLENTY of nice food. We were spoiled. The day-to-day training was lack by the part of my immediate supervisor.

Have been well support by team to learn the required skills for sustainability.

Regarding training, AECOM has a university platform for technical and professional training. AECOM provided external training to do the inspections, including working in height and confined spaces.

The formal training is lacking and generalised. We were not trained in the day to day workings of things e.g. file structure, who to talk to about what and how to book leave etc. It heavily relied on your buddy who can be busy/ relatively new themselves and not know. The informal training given within the team was great, everyone was nice and willing to help.

On the job training is generally quite good. I would like more training resources for my area within AECOM uni or at least links to that.

Most training is on job or outside of work hours. Plenty of resources are available.

Lots of opportunities to learn on the job. The grad specific training can feel out of touch with the day to day tasks of graduate engineers.

AECOM University, CPD Sessions within our team

2 Day Graduate conference in the beginning of the year, various online training modules, training day at the end of the year. It was mainly focused on learning about the company and culture.

Minimal formal training.

A lot of the graduate training was not very engaging and was not very conducive to getting to know other graduates / others working in the firm. It was a lot of long lectures in a board room. Have picked up a lot of skills on the job, which have been through working with other team members.

The training is mainly online inductions and learning by doing. Office work is mainly online as help from your manager/supervisor and out at field from other seniors or graduates that have done the work before

on the job learning. not very structured, so could use some improvement. largely dependent on initiative to ask

Great trainings are provided internally and externally. I picked up - 4wd - ecological field survey skills - water testing - reporting and writing - gold sim - and many more

I improved my communication skills by putting myself out there and talking to people and asking more questions. A lot of self learning when it comes to work relevant to your respective discipline.

Most training is through AECOM university or on the job training. The company offers many lunch and learns that assists in the learning of young professionals. The company also supports external workshops and conferences that assist in the training and development of professional skills.
